Time is flying by and the election and fundraiser (not to mention Fringe and the beginning of Gents rehearsals ...)
First of all, the Manitoba election. What a crazy ride it's been. With all of the campaign promises, campaigning and mud-slinging, this thing couldn't be over soon enough. I am, however, extremely proud of and excited for James. He's had a steep hill to climb in the con-ser-va-tive riding of Springfield, but if our door knocking proved anything last Sunday, it is that most people out there consider him to be the most qualified and best person running. However, they all say that knowing that there's pretty much no chance of the liberals winning in the con-ser-va-tive riding. That's basically the summary of the whole election - "well, Jon Gerrard is the best candidate for premier with the best platform, too bad he stands no chance." Sigh.
Best piece of BS in the whole election: "I would never run a negative campaign with attack ads" from Hugh McFaden, whose 5 of 7 TV ads are ... attack ads. He's so brilliant he makes me want to barf.
Best quote from Matthew during the election: Hugh McFaden's "family values" ad comes on the television for the hundredth time. Matt: "why doesn't he just take them to Higgins and Main and pimp them out?"
TUESDAY, MAY 22nd is voting day - get out and hit the poles!! If you live in Springfield, vote JAMES JOHNSON!!!On the theatre side of my world, things are busy but coming together. I think our fundraiser on June 7th is going to be AWESOME. We already have so many great prizes, we have a kick-ass scene to feature, and hopefully we'll sell this baby out!
Mel's reading recommendation for May: DeNiro's Game by Rawi Hage. I seriously missed my bus stop twice reading this one.
